Kristen graduated from nursing school in 1994 and has been helping empower women and their families as a birth nurse since 1997. She has practiced hypnosis on and off since she was a young girl, but became a Certified Hypnotherapist through the National Guild of Hypnotists in 1998 after reading about hypnosis working well with birth.  She then met Mickey Mongan and became certified in HypnoBirthing the same year. She became certified in HypnoBirthing®  Fertility Therapy in 2005.  She currently works at Providence Portland Medical Center as well as teaching classes and working privately with clients.  She helped found Zenana Spa and Wellness Center in 2005, a family- and maternity-centered day spa and wellness center.

Kristen originally hails from Loo-a-vull, Kentucky, but finds Portland more to her current lifestyle and energy level. Meaning that she loves to garden in minimal humidity and prefers rain over icy roads.  She currently lives in a house with huge windows and two feisty cats.

Kristen found her calling and interest for working in women’s health as an adolescent.  At some point, she just knew she wanted to be present for families during their birthings, facilitating and supporting them by holding a safe backdrop.  Since then, she continues to work hard advocating for and empowering women (and their partners) by reminding them of their natural birthright and instincts as well as instilling confidence in their innate abilities. Kristen teaches HypnoBirthing to families in a playful manner, using lots of stories to illustrate the techniques learned in the class.  She supports families seeking all types of birthing experiences and specializes in low-interventive, joyful births!
